Hello, I am Ako Tomita. I am from Gunma prefecture in Japan with my family. I am 19 years old. I have an old sister and young sister. However, my old sister lives in Tokyo for her work. I am student of Gunma university. I major in Education of English. I have experience of studying abroad. Last spring vacation, I went to Australia. I homestay with my friends. I learned about not only education, but also Australia. It was very good so I want to go abroad again. I also like playng piano. When I have free time, I always practice my favorite songs. I learned piano for 6years. I sometimes practice Enlish song. I can play “ Hotel California” so I would like to go hotel California and play the song.

Explanations of poetry

① I went to Australia for studying English during spring vacation. The city I went to is Wollongong. This is very beautifu city. Cockatoo is Japanese omu. I always heard their voice so that is memorial sound.

When the last day was coming, I was very sad. Because my host family was so kind to me. They are like real family. They gave me a lot of presents such as cloths, perfume, and letters. I could feel their warm minds from All these things. I cannot stop my tears. I cannot foget them forever.

②One day, when I was junior high school student, I would go to clam school by train. I got off the train at Takasaki Staition. Then, I found two foregners. They maybe old couple from other countries. They looked in trouble for transfer. I wanted to tell them how to go their goal. However, there were a lot of problems. Were they in trouble? Can they speak English? Do I have ability to talk with them? These problems bother me to talk to them. I did not have courage so I could not talk to them. I was very mortifying.

③ This is the story about my host family in Australia. Before I mentioned, I went to Australia for studying English during spring vacation. The host family is mother, father, and three boys. The most oldest boy called River. He is 5years old. He is infant. However, he is very smart and gentle. One day, he and I were playing soccer at park near our house. Then, his friends joined us. I could not understand what they said because they speak very fast and use difficult words. Then, River told something to them. After that, they started to talk slowly. Maybe, he asked them to do so. He is 5years old gentle man.

④This is the story about English camp. We English major in Gunma Uni have such a camp in every summer vacation. We go to ‘Akagishizennoie’ in Mt.Akagi. There are many trees. On the day, it was very good weather. We could hear twitter of a lot of birds. We taught English to Ota junior high school students. We played bingo game. They looked very happy. In the night, I check their speech memo and speech. When I taught things what they have not understood, they looked very glad! I could not forget their face. At that time, I realy want to be an English teacher.

⑤This is the story about English class. I was taking an English class when I was 13years old. English class have been started because I became junior high school student. I like to study English so I was looking foward to take the class. In the first class, I learned about alphabet and I sang ABC song. ‘Hello! How are you?’ Such sentences were written in text book. However it was too easy for me. Actually, I have studied English since I was 6years old. Because of that, the class was very boring. I wanted to learn more new things! I wanted to learn more difficult things!

⑥speech contest

This is story about speach contest. When I was 7th grade of junior high school, I paticipated in English speech contest. I spoke about Japanese culture, rakugo. Before my turn, I was very nervous. I went to rest room again and again. My ALT gave me some coments. That encourage me. My turn was coming. I started to talk. I was not nervous. It was very fun. Everyone saw me. After speaking, everyone gave me big craping. I took third plare. However, My ALT said ‘ You were first place for me. Good job, Ako!’ I was very glad to hear that.

⑦Eiken

This is the story about Eiken. When I was 13years old, I took the test of Eiken grade 3 at my junior high school. This is the first time of my taking. I prepared for the test for a long time. I studied vocabulary, grammar, and listening hard. I bought a lot of text book for Eiken. That was so difficult so I thougt I will not pass the exam and I have to take it again. However I could pass it! I was very happy. I decided that I am going to take grade pre 2 until I become 8 grade.

4. English class

This is the story about English. I was 6 years old. I was in small room. It was dark and dirty. My English teacher was talking. He was little bit scary. I could not understand them. First, I thought that to study English is fun?. I wanted to puit English clam school. However it became more and more fun. I could pronunciate a lot of animals and color very good. I often played English games. It was fun. After the class, I drank juice and ate some candies. I noticed to study English is very fun. I wanted to study more.

6. English class

This is the story about English class in elementry school. Though, my class was first floor, I was on grand floor. Because, we always used estpecialy class room in English class. I played michiannai game. I said Go straight, Turn right, That is the builling next to hospital. My friends said Take the second left. We arrived goal. Our team won opponente. We were very very happy. I thought to study English is fun! I wanted to tell someones how to go to station, hospital and so on.

5. English class

This is the story about English class. When I was in elemetry school student we have only one class on weeks. I was looking foward to the class. Because I had studied English since I was 6 years old. I was good at studying English. I was in new room. I was saying that I want to be a teacher. In this time, we said what we want to be. After that We played bingo about it. Our team won opponente. We got some pieces of seal. Almost all of our classmates enjoyed the game. We were very happy.

Explanation of my theme

I made 10 poems. These are all real memories which are related to English. This is conection between my poems. Before I mentioned, I have study English since I was 6 years old. Therefore I have a lot of memories. These include both sad things and happy things. I wrote some of these memories in my poems.

I choose 9 happy memories. Because, I remenber almost all of theme clearly. Some of them are heartwarming stories. I also choose 1 sad memory. Why? Because, thanks to the experience, I could realize my ignorence and thougt I should study English harder.

The memory with English

1.My mother

It was very hot day. I was in Australia. I was crying because I had to come back to Japan. Host mother gave me presents. I was moved by it. There were hand prints of boys. Host mother hug me.

2. 5 years old boy

I and the boy were playing soccer. After while, his friend joined us. I could not understand his saying. So, the boy told something to his frend. Then, his friend started to talk slowly and clealy. I could hear his saying. I thougt the boy told his friend that she is foregner so please talk easily. I was moved. He was gentle man.

3.In train

It was spring day. I was 16 years old. In train, I saw foreigners. They were in trouble for train line. I tried to talk to them. However I could not do. I felt my ignorance.

4. English class

I was 6 years old. I was in small room. My English teacher was talking. I could not understand them. I pronunced animals. I played English game. It was fun. After class, I drank juice and ate candy.

I took Eiken grade 4 when I was 13 years old. I was very nervous. It was very hard for me. But, I passed it. I was surprised. I decided that I will try grade 3.

9.English Camp

I was in Akagi nature house. It was sunny. I taught English grammar. I and Sota were same group. We played English game. Students looked happy. I had a wonderful time.

10.Speach contest

I was very nervous. I was going to talk about rakugo. I had some picture cards. I and my friend were practicing. In my turn, I made misstake. But, I got 3rd place.

Exploring earthquake experiences: A study of second language learner’s ability to express and communicate deeply traumatic events in poetic form.

The aim of this document and study for it is to examine skil of L2 learner’s expressing tragedy or traumatic hapenings by writing some poetris. This essay discribes the study about poetry related to the earthquake experiences such as the Great East Japan Earthquake. Poetry is used as a lot of things. For exampe, a means to develop L2 literacy and a way to heal and therapy. It is also used to examime identity construction. Thanks for poetry writing, L2 learners can pay more atentions to the documents comparing with nomal ones or other literacy which is fiction. It is effective especialy to read tragedy story

I chose the third poetry. The title is “contact”. I have two reoson to choose this poetry.

First, because author’s experience is similar to my experience of the Great East Japan Earthquake. When it occered, I was 12years old. My young sister is just only 6years old. We had to go home with own sister or broter so we went to go home togher. When we arrived at home, we couldn’t see my mother. We tried to call her, but the call line was crowded. We worried about it. My sister started to cry. Jast at that time, my mother came back home. Then, I noticed the fear of not being able to contact. Because of this experience, I can understand feeling of author.

Second, I can feel the flow of the time comparing with other poetry. Because of it, I could experience author’s experiences. When I read the poetry, I became anxious. That is things what Hanauer said. However I couldn’t understand culture of author. It is difficult for me to feel like that.
